The spring racing season is usually six to seven weeks long. The first annual race against Andover, St. John’s, Simsbury and a few other schools takes place three weeks after the start of the spring term at Lake Quinsigamond. Crews race against Kent the following week. The third week is a dual meet with Hanover. In week four, crews race rivals Andover and Tabor on the Merrimack. The fifth week and last Saturday before Interschols, crews bet shirts in a dual race against St. Paul’s. Every season ends with races at the New England Interscholastic Rowing Assocation Championship Regatta (NEIRAs) on the Saturday before Memorial Day. All races are 1500 meters, and all starts are floating except for NEIRAs.
The top two finishers of the Boy’s Varsity Eight and Girl’s Varsity Eight events at NEIRAs qualify for the USRowing Youth National Championship. In years with outstandingly fast boats, crews may also choose to attend the famous Henley Royal Regatta (2112 meters) or Henley Women’s Regatta (1500 meters) in Henley-on-Thames, England.
